Off the Beaten Meter (odd-meter compi RELEASE)

Postby not-I » March 30th, 2010, 7:10 pm

Hi there!

My apologies for all the delays, but the odd-meter mash-up compilation is finally being released!

The album title is "Off the Beaten Meter: MashUps Beyond 4/4" and will feature ALL of the unreleased tracks submitted to the board (http://oddmetermashups.proboards.com/) as well as several previously released ones.

http://www.klaudiagottwald.com has been commissioned to do the CD-cover-style artwork.

The official release site is here: http://offthebeatenmeter.blogspot.com/. It's pretty bare now, but will add several posts and links prior to release to build up the "hype."

Release date is April 12, 2010. There will be no further delays.

If you still have an unfinished or new project you would like to have included, you have about a week to finish and submit it to the board (http://oddmetermashups.proboards.com/). Or you can just PM me.

Odd Regards,

DJ not-I

In direct connection with this impending release, I'm urgently looking for Andrewherring (or DJ Lumpy, Juxtaposeur, or anyone else who can pass on the following message to Mr. Herring):

Dear Andrew,

This is DJ not-I (Travis) from GYBO. You once sent me a list with links or your old non-4/4 bootlegs. Unfortunately, with all the changes on GYBO and my own hard disk crash, I've lost both the list and the bootlegs.

Please get in touch with me ASAP, as the Off the Beaten Meter compilation will be released on Apr. 12 and I really want to include a couple of your tracks!

You can contact me directly by placing "dj" in front of my domain name ("not-i.com")

Best Regards, not-I (Travis)

Or PM me (if you can - these new PM rules are not exactly conducive to communication)

Plus: Lee Spoons & ToTom, I've lost most of yours too. :( Please get back to me ASAP - you can do so right in this thread, but the element of surprise is bigger when you PM or e-mail me and your long-forgotten previously-released tracks magically show up on the compilation!

BTW

Knowing the tracks, I can safely say:

Far from a nerdy exercise in chin-stroking, this compilation will both blow your mind and rock your socks off!

Off the Beaten Meter features tracks by a range of noted bootleg remixers/mashup artists, including 10000 Spoons, Andrewherring, DJ not-I, Eternal Khaos, G3RSt, Overdub, RIAA (Mr. Fab), ToTom, Virtual DJ, and Voicedude, who mash up odd-metered tunes by the likes of 4Hero, Chris Squire, Dave Brubeck, Foo Fighters, Genesis, Joan Osborne, Louis Armstrong, Metallica, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Outkast, Philip Glass, Pink Floyd, Primus, Queens of the Stone Age, Quindon Tarver, Radiohead, Ravel, Slayer, The Future Sound of London, The Supremes, and UK.

The resulting compilation is a heady brew of progressive bootleg remixing that pushes the envelopes of both mash-up-making and rhythmic perceptions in general.

Andrewherring is Angus Howie on facebook, and he's in your friends list ;) Dunno if he uses it though, he doesn't even have a wall to write on.

Have PMed you mine.

Yeah, thanks Lee, couldn't remember "Andrew"'s real name. BristleKRS already forwarded my message to him - hope it gets through!

http://offthebeatenmeter.blogspot.com/ now features two excellent promo videos. And both bootlegs/mashups will be included on the compilation. I have to say, this is going to be a very cool thing indeed.

PS, Mr. Fab, I need a fresh link to your contribution (What A Wonderful Sidewalk). Please PM me ASAP.

Yep, it's up: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=473

I think it turned out very nicely indeed - I've presently got it on endless rotation - it's got a wonderful range IMO.

And, needless to say, I did manage to finally track down Mr. Herring and feature two of his tracks. :)
