Everything starts with an E!

Errors - richie was right. Wonderful, and it is Mogwai with synths although they get more percussive than you think
Everything Everything...really getting into this album, it's the less poppy quiet moments that intrigue me
Emeralds LP is still on my iPod
oOoOo (bugger there goes my system) - wonderful tracks, lovely summery pop
Ritualzzz - scary witch house inna da area!
OneohTrix Point Zero - floaty floaty
Light Asylum - I LOVE Shannon's voice. and her work with:
Teengirl Fantasy - intriguing cutup pop

Disappointment recently: everyone's wowing about that Cut Copy track (15 mins). Don't. Get. Why...it just sounds like nu-disco meets moroder I Feel Love synths? Hmm. Very Hot Chip, not new.

Mogwai - Music for a forgotten future

Still not sure about the new album, they seem to have got some guitar tone they keep using that I don't like. The additional CD with 25 or so minute track though is much more the Mogwai I love - - quiet and delicate with shards of noise and grit.

Chase & Status seem to have wanted to go Prodigy/Pendulum and forgotten why their first album was so impressive - it'll probably see millions...

Charlie Slick - synthpop Synthesist.

Postby lukedsico » March 10th, 2011, 2:27 pm

Its kinda odd when you just run across some random guy on spotify who's made like 5 albums of odd DEVO-ish Synth Pop.

Q: Why does this website look like it was made in 1995? A: Because I hate the internet.

Ithink the album Eddie Murphy is the best place to start. and he has nothing on hypem.com

Erland & The Carnival Nightingale

Postby lukedsico » March 15th, 2011, 4:05 pm

Random selection on Luisterpaal - I'm kinda into it.
http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/

Erland & The Carnival Nightingale
Label: Full Time Hobby/PIAS

Rather 'Odd Pop' actually.

Step right up. Step right up. Erland And The Carnival are a folk-rock supergroup, formed as they were by multi-instrumentalist Simon Tong (The Verve, The Good, The Bad And The Queen) and erstwhile Paul McCartney-collaborator David Nock (The Orb, The Cult, The Fireman) and Orcadian singer Erland Cooper. They mix traditional folk music with Americana, garage and psychedelia, and then steam-roller it with a rollicking fug of analogue Ethiopique keyboards and hypnotic effects to create an engaging, deep and beautiful procession of noise, topped majestically by Orcadian frontman Erland Cooper’s sonorous, vintage voice.

By adapting, adopting, reusing and recycling various bits of existing poetry, political dialogue, fisherwives' tales, newspaper articles and songs (as the folk tradition allows), and melding, melting and smelting them together with their own ideas, they’ve created a unique collection of engaging, swirling tracks, curious re-workings and stories that, when combined, sound like the narrative to a creepy, dreamy, ‘Olde English’ funfair. These tracks form the crux of their assured debut album which was recorded at Damon Albarn's Studio 13, and released on Full Time Hobby last January to universal acclaim.

Currently listening to the Red Riding Hood soundtrack. Though the movie apparently is a bomb the soundtrack has quite some good tunes.
(my attention was drawn because of the inclusion of the new and massive Fever Ray track).
Also listening to the Knife's Silent Shout live dvd. I never really got into the Knife, but recently I listened more to the live versions, they appeal a lot more to me and now I'm sold. Late to the party as usual.
